Carphone Warehouse first retailer to announce Black Friday deals for 2018

Black Friday 2018 is set to be the biggest one yet – and if Carphone Warehouse’s deals are anything to go by – there’s going to be some absolutely incredible bargains.

Dubbed its Black Tag event, the phone retailer has got in there early by announcing its much-anticipated deals before any other major retailer, and so far we’ve spotted up to £200 off pay monthly contracts, £60 on Pay As You Go contracts, and up to £150 worth of savings off SIM free.

Some of our favourite bargains include £200 off the Samsung S9, which boasts a revolutionary camera that adapts like a human eye, comes at no upfront fee and a monthly cost of £26.99. Or there’s £120 off the beautifully designed Huawei P20 Pro that uses AI to boost its speed and efficiency, with a £49.99 upfront payment followed by a monthly cost of £29.99.

Carphone Warehouse is also offering another saving of £100 on the splash, water and dust resistant iPhone 7 (32GB) which comes in at £25.99 per month and has no upfront cost.

We’ve listed out the rest of the best deals below, and will be continuing to update this page up until Cyber Monday, when new deals are announced.

Rather than Black Friday, Carphone Warehouse dub Black Friday their ‘Black Tag’ event, which will also probably include Cyber Monday.

Carphone Warehouse will also likely be offering discounts in store, if you don’t mind fighting off the rest of the crowds, which may differ from the online offerings, although there’s no word on that yet.

If you’re looking for mobile phone deals, Carphone Warehouse is the centre point for impressive mobile phone deals, having specialised in them ever since it was founded back in 1989.

Top tips to make the most out of Black Friday

Do your research in advance – know what you want to buy and the price you’re willing to pay

Shop around and give yourself time to compare the best deals

Keep checking your favourite retailers websites to ensure you don’t miss any ‘flash’ deals

    Be clear on return policies

Don’t panic – you’ll only miss out or end up over-spending

Top 5 tips for doing Black Friday from your phone

To make sure you get the best deals you can, and don’t miss out, we spoke to Ru Bhikha, mobiles expert at uSwitch.com, to get his top tops for doing Black Friday from your phone:

Stick to your game plan – With a treasure trove of Black Friday deals on your handset, it might be tempting to snaffle up ‘best buys’ on your commute, at work or even from the comfort of your bed. No matter how easy it is to go on a smartphone spree, it’s worth sticking to a pre-designed game plan – draw up a list of items you want, as well as the features you need, and stick to it.

Set up alerts – ‘Black Friday’ is a bit of a misleading name – the deal season is already well and truly upon on us. To stay on top of this, setup alerts with key retailers to notify you when prices change – Amazon, for example, has a dedicated app which will notify you when deals become available.

Get social media savvy – A number of retailers will save some of their best deals for social media channels, so get ahead of the curve and follow your favourite stores on the likes Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Make sure you have push notifications setup for key outlets on social media channels so you’ll be alerted when certain deals kick in.

Sign-up with retailers beforehand – The Black Friday weekend itself can feel like a mad scramble and key items can disappear within minutes. Don’t get caught on the hop. Make sure you have set up online accounts with all the key stores before the main event arrives.

Compare prices – Of course, while speed is of the essence, it’s important to do your due diligence and quickly compare how the deal stacks up before you hit ‘buy’. Comparison sites allow you to quickly weigh up whether that too-good-to-be-true deal is actually the best price you could get.
