Piers asks Corbyn if Hamas should stay in power

James Cleverly took a swipe at Jeremy Corbyn over his refusal to call Hamas a terror group in a fiery interview with Piers Morgan.

The former Labour leader would not give a straight answer to repeated questions by the TalkTV presenter in a heated exchange last night.

In response to the interview, the Home Secretary took to X, formerly Twitter, to clearly state that Hamas is a terror group.

Mr Cleverly said: “As Home Secretary, I can confirm that Hamas are a terror group.”

During the interview on Monday, Mr Morgan attempted to pin down Mr Corbyn on whether Hamas is a terror group and if it should stay in power in Gaza.

But the Islington North MP avoided saying yes or no and instead spoke about a ceasefire as the pair shouted over each other.

Towards the end of the exchange, the TalkTV host said: I’ve asked you two questions, should Hamas stay in power and are they a terror group, you’re refusing to answer either of them, that is very telling.

“And you wonder why people think you had a problem with Jewish people.”

Mr Corbyn replied: “It’s not very telling at all. What is very telling is your inability to keep quiet for 30 seconds to allow anybody to answer a question.”

Mr Morgan afterwards said it was “staggering” that the ex-Labour leader, who currently sits as an independent MP following an antisemitism row, did not give clear answers to his two questions.

He said: “I repeatedly asked Jeremy Corbyn if he thought Hamas was a terrorist group and whether they should stay in power in Gaza.

“He repeatedly refused to answer either question. Staggering.”
