Rishi Sunak chairs first Cabinet meeting following reshuffle

Rishi Sunak has plunged the Tories’ poll ratings below 20 percent for the first time since Liz Truss announced her intention to resign as Prime Minister last October.

A new poll by People Polling, for GB News, found just 19 percent of the public now say they will vote for the Conservatives at the next general election.

Labour, by contrast, has opened up a 30 point lead with 49 percent support.

PeoplePolling, a member of the official British Polling Council, asked 1,581 UK adults how they would vote and was conducted today, just one day after Mr Sunak carried out a large Cabinet reshuffle in the hope of resetting his party’s fortunes.

The last time the Tories polled at 19 percent was on October 20 last year, the day Liz Truss stood outside No. 10 Downing Street and threw in the towel.

She was replaced with Rishi Sunak whom Tory MPs believed would be able to revive their polling fortunes.

The poll also gives a major boost to Reform UK, formerly the Brexit Party, who have leapfrogged into third place on 11 percent.

They are now outpolling the Lib Dems and the Greens, who garnered nine and seven percent support respectively.

It also found that while a majority of voters – 51 percent – supported Mr Sunak’s decision to sack Suella Braverman, only a minority of 2019 Conservative voters backed his decision.

Speaking about the poll’s findings, People Polling’s Matthew Goodwin said that the results show “a majority of people think Rishi Sunak was right to sack Suella Braverman” but that “only a minority of 2019 Conservatives do”.
