With complete dominance in skateboarding, Japan overtook China to emerge as the leader in the gold medal tally at the Tokyo Olympics.

Japan leads with 8 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze at the end of Day 3.

The United States advanced to the second position, winning a total of 7 golds, 3 silvers and 4 bronze medals.

China is placed third with 6 golds, 5 silver and 7 bronze.

Hidilyn Diaz has become the first Olympic gold medalist from the Philippines after winning the women’s 55-kilogram weightlifting category.

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic defeated Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets to reach the third round in men’s tennis.

At the age of 13, Japan’s Momiji Nishiya made history by winning the first-ever Olympic gold medal in women’s street skateboarding. She beat Brazil’s Rayssa Leal, also 13, and Japan’s 16-year-old Nakayama Funa to win gold, making it the youngest individual podium in the history of the Olympic Games.

The host nation made a clean sweep of golds in the street event, which was introduced for the first time at this edition of Olympic Games, after Yuto Horigome won the men’s competition.
