Aldi launches incredible colour-changing gin – and it’s cheap too
While we’re certainly not picky when it comes to gin, Aldi’s latest offering may just be the best one yet, as not only is it forest fruits flavour, but it also changes colour.
The magical morphs from a pale sapphire to a blossoming pink when you add tonic to it (or any other acidic mixer or garnish, for that matter), and rather than being powered by hundreds of chemicals, the intriguing gin gets its incredible colour-changing properties from an Asian flower.
Distilled with the blue petals of the Asian butterfly flower, the PH levels are adjusted in the gin when anything is added to it (such as a tonic), making it completely change in colour.
And rather than setting you back a fortune, the exciting limited edition gin is priced at a fairly reasonable £19.99 – not to shabby for such a showstopper.
The sad news? You can currently only get it in Scotland right now, with the gin being made by the Scottish McQueen Gin at the Trossachs Distillery in Callendar. Although hopefully they’ll roll it out in England soon too, or we may need to look into some cheap flights to Scotland…
If you don’t fancy trekking all the way to Scotland for your next bottle of booze, we also spotted M&S selling a similar bottle of colour-changing gin for £25, that’s weirdly also Scottish, but this time in a lavender flavour.
Dale McQueen, Managing Director and Co-Founder of McQueen Gin, said: "Not only does our new artisan gin taste great, but it also brings a little bit of theatre to gin o’clock. Perfect to share with friends, it’s a delicious fruity gin with a difference."
"Add a squeeze of lime first and see what shade of pink the gin goes, then add the tonic and it will change again."
McQueen also praised Aldi for their collaboration, stating "As a small craft distillery our partnership with ALDI is very valuable to us. This contract alone is worth £110,000 to the distillery."
"We’re very proud to be working with them to bring this product to consumers up and down the country, giving them the chance to engage in the purest of gin experience, with just the right touch of magic."
More on supermarkets
Graham Nicolson, Group Buying Director, ALDI Scotland said: "We’re always looking for new and innovative products, and this is a fantastic addition to our range of Scottish Gins. It is our second collaboration with artisan distiller McQueen Gin, and we’re confident it is going to be very popular."
"We’re proud to champion local suppliers and already have some more exciting collaborations with McQueen Gin in the pipeline."
