Mr Campbell, ex-Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair’s former press secretary, has made little secret of his opposition to Britain’s decision to quit the bloc. And he was at it again last night, commenting on a clip in which Simon Gardner from Varfell Farms, UK’s biggest daffodil producer, said labour shortages were on the verge of forcing him out of business.

Mr Campbell posted: “Brexit. The disaster that keeps on disastering.

“How long can the political class keep pretending it is anything other than a catastrophe for the country that sector by sector so much damage is being done?”

However, he was given short shrift by many of those who responded to his tweet.

Phillip Cutts said: “Boring. It’s like listening to a war bore in the pub. It’s behind us. Eyes front.”

Another poster added: “Brexit is a disaster for Campbell, mainly because of his pathetic attempts at stopping it.

“So of course he is going to say it’s a disaster. Hollow words as we have come to expect from him.”

Nevertheless, not everyone disagreed with the former Mirror journalist.

Rich Parr said: “Mr Campbell has taken a lot of stick over the years for his methods, but his approach was intelligent, structured, ruthless and devastating, as the Tories of the day had a moral and ideological framework. Boris et al have none.

“The Brexit Lie will continue until the UK is broken.”

7.43am update: Do it NOW Boris! PM told to deploy ‘nuclear option’ if EU don’t cave in bitter Brexit row

Boris Johnson has been warned he may have no option now but to deploy the “nuclear option” against the European Union as time runs out to find a solution to the post-Brexit trade problems in Northern Ireland.

Brexit talks between UK minister Lord Frost and EU counterpart Maros Sefcovic are due to resume over the coming days as they attempt to find common ground on the implementation of the Northern Ireland Protocol.

Northern Ireland is still effectively part of the EU’s single market for goods, with trade checks being made on several goods crossing from Great Britain.

Lord Frost wants to overhaul parts of the Protocol in order to eliminate customs controls ordered by the EU, but Brussels insists the mechanism won’t be renegotiated.

7.36am update: Widdecombe says history books will ask why Brexit ‘wasn’t earlier’ as she blasts remoaners

Former Brexit Party MEP Ann Widdecombe blasted “remoaners” over Brexit and argued the history books will ask why the huge political decision was not taken earlier.

Ann Widdecombe spoke to Express.co.uk about Brexit and how the decision has played out across the UK in her mind.

The former Conservative minister explained the freedoms granted to the UK now allows the country to trade globally and pursue what they want on the world stage, arguing history books will demand to know why the decision was not made sooner.

Ms Widdecombe also dissected the HGV driver debacle and admitted Brexit was partly to blame but a “perfect storm” of other reasons was the most likely conclusion of the problem.

7.27am update: Get a backbone and scrap deal! Brexiteer fumes at Boris for sticking with hated EU terms

Boris Johnson should show some “backbone” and order the suspension of the Northern Ireland Protocol, a prominent Brexiteer has said in the wake of comments by European Commissioner Maros Sefcovic.

But former Brexit Party MEP Ben Habib said both Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Brexit Minister Lord David Frost lack the “courage” necessary to protect the Union in the face of ongoing pressure from Brussels.

Speaking yesterday, Mr Sefcovic, whose role encompasses responsibility for the Protocol, said any attempt to renegotiate the post-Brexit agreement between the EU and the UK Government would result in “instability, uncertainty and unpredictability”.

The Protocol is intended to prevent a hard border on the island of Ireland by stipulating that Northern Ireland continues to adhere to some EU rules and regulations despite the UK having quit the EU.
