The Prime Minister travelled to Kyiv yesterday (Saturday) to “demonstrate the UK’s steadfast solidarity with Ukraine” and hold talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky on military and economic assistance. During his visit, Mr Johnson was filmed walking through the streets of the Ukrainian capital to meet local residents.

The Ukrainian ministry of defence said the two leaders were “at a handshake distance” from those fighting for their freedom, adding: “This is what democracy looks like. This is what courage looks like. This is what true friendship between peoples and between nations looks like.”

Douglas Carswell, a former UKIP MP and Vote Leave campaigner, commented: “Remember when they said Brexit Britain was isolationist and led by a clown? Some isolation. Some clown.”
