The Government is reportedly planning to pick a fight with the EU using the Queen’s Speech this year, as Boris Johnson wants to give ministers more power to extract the Northern Ireland protocol from UK legislature.

His move reflects considerable frustration within ministerial ranks over the policy, which avoids a hard border on the island of Ireland by introducing EU checks at Irish ports.

Many have preached reform, suggesting the regulation has held Britain back and made life harder for those living in Northern Ireland.

Roger Daltrey chimed added his voice to the crowd this weekend as he told the Independent the UK has not “made the most of” Brexit’s regulation-busting ability.

The 78-year-old founder of The Who told the publication he was “really disappointed” that the country hasn’t “burned an awful lot of useless regulation”.

He complained that after putting in planning permission for a building on his farm, he found the process would cost him £40,000, prompting him to ask: “Who the bloody hell’s got that?”
