Lee Anderson says voters don’t ‘give a toss’ about Rishi Sunak’s charisma
Lee Anderson blasts disrespectful Home Office
Lee Anderson has doubled down after comments emerged of the top Tory saying Rishi Sunak doesn’t have the charisma of Boris Johnson.
The comments were reported by the Mirror last night, who had obtained a recording of the deputy chairman speaking at a “Lagers with Lee” event in October.
He is heard telling his audience in Cambridge: “Rishi is a details man, he gets the job done. He hasn’t got the charisma of Boris, we know that… there’s not many people who have.”
Mr Anderson also warned that the party needed to “stop messing about” and give people a reason “to vote for us again”.
While he praised the Prime Minister, his comments are being used as an attempt to imply a divide between Mr Sunak and one of his most prominent Tory chairmen.
Mr Anderson hit back this morning, pledging to double down and “go further” with his observation of how voters feel about Rishi Sunak.

He told the Express that his reported comments were “no secret at all”.
“I have always made this point. I will go further in saying that very few people not just politicians have the charisma of Boris Johnson, that’s just a plain and simple fact.
“Rishi is a details man who works incredibly hard and when he delivers on his five pledges no one will give a toss about a charisma contest.
“The people of the UK want results over personalities.”

Mr Anderson told the group at Cambridge Rugby Club that Keir Starmer makes voters “nod off” when speaking.
Last month the Tory Deputy Chairman told GB News that talk of another leadership contest was “absolute nonsense”.
“Let me just tell you now, here on GB News, there’s no way there’s going to be a leadership contest.
“We don’t need a leadership contest, we need to let Rishi crack on with the job. There’s one letter gone in and this is the thing: if there was a leadership election Rishi would win, hands down. The membership wouldn’t get a vote. You’ve got to get over a certain tipping point to get to the last two. He would win. Simple as that.
“Talk of a leadership election at this stage is absolute nonsense. It’s just playing right into the Labour party’s hands.”
On Sunday, the Times claimed that a dozen Red Wall MPs have privately admitted to colleagues that they regret ousting Mr Johnson as Prime Minister.
However allies of the former PM claim he is “enjoying life” outside politics, and has not expressed interest in returning in the short term.
However rumours still swirl he could make a comeback after next year’s General Election.
