Lord David Frost, 56, joined ex-BBC journalist Andrew Neil, 72, for his Channel 4 documentary ‘Boris Johnson: Has He Run Out of Road?’ But the ex-Brexit negotiator appeared to suggest he would consider returning to work alongside the Prime Minister provided Mr Johnson made significant changes inside Downing Street.
Speaking about Mr Johnson’s inner circle, Lord Frost said: “I think some of the people around him are maybe a bit inexperienced, maybe not themselves committed to delivering the priorities that the people who elected the Government would want to see.
“So all those things feed on each other and I think produced the sense of drift.”
Lord Frost, who was reportedly an ally of the Vote Leave contingent inside Number 10, resigned from the Cabinet in December over the Government’s “coercive” Covid measures.
He also called for the UK to become a “lightly regulated, low-tax” economy.

In an interview, Lord Frost added: “I left the Government because, as I think is well known, I couldn’t support certain policies ‑ most recently on Covid restrictions and Plan B.”
However, Mr Neil asked Lord Frost whether the Prime Minister had employed experienced people around him before.
“I think he did,” the ex-CEO of the Scotch Whiskey Association said.
“We had people of experience and judgement in 2019 and we delivered.”
Notable departures from Number 10 since the last general election include ex-Vote Leave campaigners Dominic Cummings, 50, and Lee Cain, 41.
Mr Cain, formerly a journalist at the Daily Mirror, worked alongside the Prime Minister shortly after the referendum when Mr Johnson became Foreign Secretary.
However, when Lord Frost was asked if he would return to Number 10 as the Prime Minister’s chief of staff he said: “So, I never say never to anything but I think a lot has to change.”
Lord Frost then laughed off Mr Neil’s quip that this was the start of a negotiation.
