Nicola Sturgeon ‘pretended she was PM of an independent country’
Nicola Sturgeon “pretended that she was prime minister of an independent country”, a Scottish Labour peer has claimed.
Lord George Foulkes accused the former Scottish First Minister of having “hijacked” devolution.
He said it started with her predecessor Alex Salmond and continued under Ms Sturgeon.
Speaking to the Holyrood magazine, Lord Foulkes said Ms Sturgeon “pretended that she was prime minister of an independent country” while ignoring issues the Scottish government and parliament have power over.
He said: “She’s a very able politician and a very effective communicator but wasn’t good at running the Scottish Government and all the areas that she should have been running.
“That’s the one thing I’ve had a bee in my bonnet about.
“They should be required to stick to spending the money they get, by whatever means they get it, on devolved areas.”
