Rishi Sunak LIVE: PM faces brutal grilling by MPs on his 5 major pledges

Rishi Sunak is set to face a 90-minute grilling from MPs on a range of topics this afternoon.

The Prime Minister will appear before the Liaison Committee, made up of the chairs of other select committees, at 2pm.

It comes six months after he unveiled his five pledges to halve inflation, grow the economy, reduce national debt, cut NHS waiting lists and stop the boats.

Subjects due to be discussed at the session are the cost of living crisis, public services, net zero, constitutional matters, and Ukraine and security.

Labour grandee Harriett Baldwin, from the Treasury Committee, will lead the questioning on the squeeze on living standards along with fellow Labour MP Catherine McKinnell of the Petitions Committee.

Mr Sunak will face questions on the net zero strategy from Philip Dunne, the Tory chair of the Environmental Audit Committee.

The constitutional affairs section will be led by Labour’s Sir Chris Bryant of the Standards Committee.

Ukraine and security matters will see questioning from Home Affairs’ Dame Diana Johnson and Foreign Affairs’ Alicia Kearns.

The Liaison Committee is chaired by senior Tory MP Sir Bernard Jenkin, who also sits on the Privileges Committee.

What is the Liaison Committee?

The Liaison Committee is made up of all the chairs from the House of Commons select committees and is chaired by Sir Bernard Jenkin MP.

It questions the Prime Minister about policy, usually three times a year.

It considers the overall work of select committees, promotes effective scrutiny of Government and chooses committee reports for debates.
