The embattled Prime Minister’s impending trip around the country has been jokingly labelled his “farewell tour” by opponents. This comes as police “close-in” on allegations about a dozen allegedly lockdown-breaking parties held in Downing Street and Whitehall during the pandemic.
With the drip due to begin this morning, the Tory leader is expected to use it to promote his Government’s “levelling up agenda” aimed at spreading wealth more evenly across the country.
Speaking before it kicked off, Mr Blackford said Mr Johnson was a “walking advert for Scottish independence” and called on the Prime Minister to use his trip “to apologise and hand in his resignation”.
The SNP’s Westminster leader added: “Every time the Prime Minister visits Scotland, support for independence shoots through the roof as people are reminded of the litany of scandals and damaging decisions imposed on Scotland by this disastrous Tory government.
“Westminster is engulfed in sleaze, corruption and criminality, the Tory cost of living crisis is spiralling out of control, and his reckless hard Brexit has inflicted billions of pounds of damage to Scotland’s economy.
“It’s no wonder Mr Johnson is spending his flying visit hiding from the Scottish people, when the overwhelming majority want him to resign, including his own Scottish Tory branch office.
“His days are numbered, if he won’t quit Tory MPs must show him the door.”
Mr Blackford’s outburst comes just days after it emerged that the Met Police had handed the PM a legally binding questionnaire into alleged lockdown breaches at Downing Street.
The Met has said the questionnaires will ask what happened and “must be answered truthfully”.

Being handed one does not mean a fine will be issued, but it has the same status as information given in an interview under caution.
The force’s probe into the scandal – dubbed partygate – has yet to be concluded.
And while Mr Johnson has vowed to comply fully with the investigation – it may have already caused fatal adamage to his premiership.
Former Tory leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith publicly said he should resign if he is fined for breaking the Covid rules his Government drew up.
All this comes as polls show the overwhelming majority of people in Scotland think Mr Johnson should resign – including Tory voters.
A poll by Panelbase found more than three quarters of Scots think he should resign while just 15 percent think he should stay.
Even Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross has called on the Prime Minister to quit.
