The Labour MP sat down with journalist Tom Swarbrick to discuss the enquiry into alleged rule breaks from the leader of the Labour Party Sir Keir Starmer.

The Labour MP deflected questions about whether Mr Starmer should resign if found to be guilty after the investigation.

Rishi Sunak, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Prime Minister Boris Johnson have been both found guilty of breaking the lockdown rules imposed by the Tory Government and have since paid their fines in recent weeks.

Mr Norris insisted that he would not address a ‘hypothetical’ question on the matter as it was so clear that no rules were broken by the Labour Party leader.

Mr Swarbrick said: “You know what I’m going to ask you next, and I think I know what you’re going to say.

“But I’ll ask it anyway if Keir Starmer is fined by the police, he has previously said that fines should result in people resigning.

“Certainly the Prime Minister and also the Chancellor, if Keir Starmer is fined by the police for breaking Covid laws, should he resign?”

Mr Norris told LBC: “Tom I’m not going to address a hypothetical, you know we’re very clear, the rules weren’t broken, we will participate…”

Mr Swarbrick added: “So you can be clear that the Prime Minister in Chancellor should resign, at the point of which an investigation is started.

“Not even at the point that an investigation concludes they broke the rule, but cant uphold that principle when potentially to Keir Starmer?

Mr Norris said: “As I’ve said Tom the difference is in that case I had in front of me as the entire nation did, a report by a senior civil servant.

“Establishing that parties had taken place even though the Prime Minister had said they had not.

“That is not the case here, we’re very clear that it was a work event.

“We believe fully that, that’s what this investigation will show so as I say I don’t think the two things are directly analogous.”

The Labour Parties Sir Keir Starmer and Deputy leader Angela Rayner have been calling for Mr Johnson to resign since the lockdown parties were exposed last year, prior to a full investigation.

“Following the receipt of significant new information over recent days, Durham Constabulary has reviewed that position and now, following the conclusion of the pre-election period, we can confirm that an investigation into potential breaches of COVID-19 regulations relating to this gathering is now being conducted.”
