Gina McCarthy, National Climate Adviser for President Biden, said climate change \u2013 a priority for the administration \u2013 is also a racial justice issue. <\/p>\n
In a video addressing the intersectionality of climate change posted over the weekend, McCarthy explained that the issue “exacerbates the challenges in the communities that have been left behind.”<\/p>\n
“It goes after the very same communities that pollution has held back and racism has held back,” McCarthy said. “Climate justice is about equal rights.”<\/p>\n
The poorest and most vulnerable communities \u2013 or the ones that have not been invested in \u2013 tend to feel the effects of the climate crisis more than affluent areas.<\/p>\n
LAID-OFF KEYSTONE XL WORKER ON BIDEN’S NEW CLIMATE CHANGE POLICIES: \u2018THEY JUST DON\u2019T CARE\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n For example, “cancer alley” \u2013 a stretch of industrial plants in Louisiana \u2013 is home to chemical plants and dangerous air pollution, as well as minority and poor communities.<\/p>\n These communities may also have fewer resources to deal with the effects of climate change \u2013 including owning items like air conditioners to cope with heat waves.<\/p>\n McCarthy added that promoting clean energy initiatives will also benefit U.S. economic growth by creating good-paying jobs, as well as union jobs.<\/p>\n CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP<\/strong><\/p>\n McCarthy, who is from Massachusetts, led the Environmental Protection Agency under President Barack Obama.<\/p>\n Biden has made it clear that addressing the climate crisis will be a focal point for his administration.<\/p>\n The president has already reversed some of former President Donald Trump\u2019s actions, including Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement and the World Health Organization.<\/p>\n
