<\/p>\nThe\u00a0Rock &\u00a0Roll Hall of Fame\u00a0has set a date and venue for the\u00a02021 induction ceremony.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, the museum\u00a0announced in a press release that this year’s inductions\u00a0will take place on Oct. 30, a contrast to past ceremonies, which have traditionally taken place in the spring or early summer.<\/p>\n
Additionally,\u00a0the ceremony will be held\u00a0for the first time at Cleveland’s\u00a0Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, which offers increased space and flexibility\u00a0and prioritizes health and safety, according to the press release.<\/p>\n
Last year’s ceremony, which\u00a0took place as two-hour virtual special\u00a0on\u00a0HBO and HBO Max,\u00a0was pushed from\u00a0May 2 to Nov. 7 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
On Feb. 10, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the 16 artists eligible for induction in 2021, led by Jay-Z, Iron Maiden and Foo Fighters.<\/p>\n

Seven women are up for induction, including Carole King (as a performer), Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Kate Bush, Dionne Warwick, Tina Turner and The Go-Go’s.<\/p>\n According to an analysis early last year by Evelyn McDonnell\u00a0of Loyola Marymount University,\u00a0less than 8%\u00a0of the artists inducted are women. The 2020 nominees included only three women: Khan, Whitney Houston and Pat Benatar; only Houston was inducted.<\/p>\n If chosen for the 2021 class, King and Turner will become the second and third female artists inducted twice, following Stevie Nicks\u2019 2019 election. King was previously inducted in 1990 with songwriting partner Gerry Goffin, while Turner was inducted in 1991 as one half of musical duo Ike & Tina Turner.<\/p>\n Jay-Z, Iron Maiden, Foo Fighters<\/strong> earn 2021 Rock Hall nominations; more women than ever up for induction<\/span><\/p>\n The 2021 nominations are also the most racially diverse they’ve been since 1996, according to the Rock Hall. Nine of the 16 nominees feature artists of color, including Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, rock band Rage Against the Machine and rappers Jay-Z and\u00a0LL Cool J.\u00a0<\/p>\n Rock Hall inductees are chosen by an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians and members of the music industry. Through April 30, fans can cast their votes on\u00a0rockhall.com\u00a0for who they think should be elected. The top five artists in that vote make\u00a0up a fans’ ballot, which is counted as a single vote alongside the 1,000-plus other\u00a0ballots.<\/p>\n Inductees will be announced in May 2021.<\/p>\n
