Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany claims ex-President Donald Trump is now actually \u201cdoing just fine\u201d without social media.<\/p>\n
Trump railed against and desperately\u00a0tried to circumvent his bans from multiple social media platforms \u2014 which for years he used to spread conspiracy theories, amplify lies, sow division and attack enemies \u2015 after he was booted for inciting the deadly U.S. Capitol riot on Jan. 6.<\/p>\n
But McEnany, a newly minted contributor for Fox News, on Friday told Fox Business\u2019 Stuart Varney that Trump now finds it \u201ckind of freeing.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe said it was kind of freeing not to have Twitter. He had a lot of time on his hands. So I think he\u2019s doing just fine without social media,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Social media users were skeptical about McEnany\u2019s claim, given her history of lying on behalf of Trump and the ex-president\u2019s well-documented love for Twitter in particular.<\/p>\n
Twitter permanently banned Trump from his favorite platform in the wake of the insurrection. Facebook\u2019s oversight board is due soon to rule on the possible reinstatement of Trump\u2019s account.\u00a0YouTube said Thursday it will\u00a0lift Trump\u2019s suspension\u00a0once the risk of offline violence has diminished.<\/p>\n
McEnany, in an apparent contradiction to her earlier comments, then pivoted to the right-wing talking point of so-called \u201ccancel culture.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat a travesty, this cancel culture, this root someone out of the public square,\u201d she told Varney, saying the bans weren\u2019t about stopping violence but \u201cabout stopping Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n
