Commentator Nick De Bois attacked Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer’s tactics to secure more votes. While speaking on TalkRadio, Mr de Bois argued the Labour leader was latching on to the row over nurses pay. He claimed this would not improve his popularity nor secure more votes in the future.<\/p>\n
He mocked the Labour leader for remaining 12 points behind Boris Johnson in recent polling and insisted he was becoming an “issue” politician.<\/p>\n
The commentator said: “Keir Starmer who has got nothing to offer and is 12 points behind in the polls has become an issue-based opposition politician.<\/p>\n
“He has grabbed this one percent pay rise like a lifeline because he knows the opinion polls say he is on the right side of the argument.<\/p>\n
“He would be foolish to think that this is a driver to vote.<\/p>\n
DON’T MISS: Brexit LIVE: Fury at £5million cost of EU red tape<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n “It is going to bring out protest people, some people will protest.<\/p>\n “But if he thinks this is his way back to power, jumping on what is, however the rights and wrongs of it, a current issue bandwagon, then I think he is going to be sorely mistaken.”<\/p>\n This comes after Sir Keir demanded a pay increase of more than 1 percent for nurses and claimed the UK’s “Covid heroes” deserved more.<\/p>\n Mr de Bois explained Boris Johnson’s defence against increasing the pay by more than 1 percent, however.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n He noted that the Tory Government has already been committed to pay rises for nurses and has done so successfully over the past three years.<\/p>\n Mr De Bois said: “Where the argument has been lost here is that for three years has committed to increasing pay rises.<\/p>\n “The average salary rises I believe is 12 percent over those three years.<\/p>\n “They have given out those pay rises and tried to increase the pay, they have invested in the NHS.”<\/p>\n Brexit threatens EU unity: ‘Now we are alone with France!’ [INSIGHT] <\/p>\n While in the House of Commons this week, Boris Johnson addressed the complaints of Sir Keir.<\/p>\n He said: “We owe a massive debt as a society and I personally to the nurses of our NHS.<\/p>\n “And that is why we’ve asked the public sector pay review body exceptionally to look at their pay.<\/p>\n “I want to stress, however, as the House knows, that starting salaries for nurses have gone up by 12.8 percent over the last three years and it is thanks to the package that this government has put in place that we now have 10,600 more nurses in our NHS than there were one year ago and 60,000 more in training.”<\/p>\nKeir Starmer says people ‘want the government to succeed’<\/h3>\n
