A New Hampshire\u00a0family\u00a0took a gender reveal party to a new level when they used\u00a080 pounds of\u00a0explosives\u00a0to find out if they were having a girl\u00a0or\u00a0boy.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The explosion\u00a0led to one individual\u00a0turning himself in to local authorities in Kingston, N.H., roughly 50 miles north of Boston. <\/p>\n
Police were dispatched to\u00a0Torromeo\u00a0Industries\u00a0on Tuesday\u00a0after\u00a0receiving\u00a0reports of an\u00a0explosion.\u00a0There they discovered a family celebrating a gender reveal party\u00a0with 80\u00a0pounds of\u00a0Tannerite, explosive targets used for\u00a0firearms practice, according to police.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The family thought it was a safe area for the\u00a0explosion, but nearby residents\u00a0said it caused property damage, a report from NBC 10 Boston\u00a0said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt cracked foundations of our neighbors’ [homes],\u201d Matt Taglieri told the station. \u201cI don\u2019t know how that\u2019s right.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Baby shower turns deadly: <\/strong>Michigan man dead after cannon explosion at baby shower<\/span><\/p>\n Are gender reveals safe?: <\/strong>Gender reveal parties turn deadly: The trend has killed, ignited massive fires<\/span><\/p>\n Other residents believed it was an earthquake, according to a report from the Boston Globe.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a loud boom that shook our four-family townhouse,\u201d Amy Owen said to the Globe. \u201cThe kids stumbled and yelled \u2018Earthquake!\u2019 and asked me what it was.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Police said no one was injured in the explosion and confirmed the family is having a boy.\u00a0The individual who purchased and detonated the\u00a0Tannerite\u00a0is cooperating with the investigation and\u00a0the police \u201cwill make a determination on what charges will be forthcoming.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Trendy\u00a0gender reveals\u00a0continue to make headlines \u2014 and not always for\u00a0good\u00a0reasons.\u00a0<\/p>\n A 28-year-old New York man\u00a0died in February when a device used in a gender reveal\u00a0exploded.\u00a0A firefighter died in September after battling a fire\u00a0started by a gender reveal device in\u00a0California.\u00a0<\/p>\n A gender reveal in Florida that used what media reports described as a weapon and Tannerite sparked a 10-acre\u00a0brush fire that caused $8 million in damage in April 2020.\u00a0<\/p>\n The woman who “invented”\u00a0gender reveals\u00a0said she had mixed feelings about the trend in 2019.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n “Who cares what gender the baby is? I did at the time because we didn’t live in 2019 and didn’t know what we know now \u2014 that assigning focus on gender at birth leaves out so much of their potential and talents that have nothing to do with what’s between their legs,”\u00a0Jenna\u00a0Karvunidis\u00a0wrote in a Facebook\u00a0post.\u00a0<\/p>\n
