The European Union Plenary saw MEPs having a final debate before voting on the Brexit trade deal struck last December. But in a speech to his colleagues, Dutchman Malik Azmani levelled a nasty threat to Britain that if they break the trade deal, which they are expected to green light on Tuesday, then the EU will “will not hesitate to take action”.<\/p>\n

He said: “Despite the serious concerns, my group will vote in favour of the Brexit deal today.<\/p>\n

“Folding this deal down would result in a risk of a no deal scenario that we have worked so hard to avoid.”<\/p>\n

He added: “But this agreement does not give a blank check to the UK nor to the European Commission and in order for this agreement to work.<\/p>\n

“Trust must be regained.”<\/p>\n

But he went on to issue a harsh warning to Britain if they break the trade deal.<\/p>\n

The Dutch MEP said: “If the British Government does not respect agreed obligations, we will not hesitate to take all necessary action.<\/p>\n

“This includes the restriction of unprecedented market access the UK currently enjoys.”<\/p>\n

And in a concluding statement, the Dutchman said: “We can only remain good friends if both parties play fairly.”<\/p>\n

The strong words from the Dutch MEP come as Michel Barnier has admitted that Brexit was the fault of the European Union ahead of the final vote on the new trade agreement between the bloc and the UK<\/p>\n

Barnier said Brexit was “a failure of the European Union and we must learn lessons from it.”<\/p>\n

He went on to say: “Why did 52 percent of the British vote against Europe?<\/p>\n

“There are reasons for that social anger and tension that existed in many regions in the UK, our duty is to listen and to understand the feelings of the people.”<\/p>\n

The European Union Plenary on Tuesday saw MEPs having a final debate before voting on the Brexit trade deal.<\/p>\n

It will complete the EU ratification process – in what will be the MEPs’ final moment to grandstand after more than four years of wrangling over the United Kingdom’s historic divorce.<\/p>\n

Senior parliamentarians have already issued scathing statements about Brexit in the build-up to the final main stage moment for Brussels since 2016’s monumental referendum on Britain’s EU membership.<\/p>\n

But MEPs are set to overwhelmingly green-light the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement after being warned against voting it down and creating a fresh no-deal Brexit cliff-edge.<\/p>\n
