The SNP leader admitted the Scottish government is “still learning” about coronavirus following a year of social distancing. But Nicola Sturgeon claimed new data suggests there may not be a link between hospital discharges and outbreaks in care homes. She said: “We’re still learning about this virus every single day and we try to adapt our response depending on that learning.<\/p>\n
“On care homes, I think everyone in a leadership position should be very reflective of the things we might have done differently had we known everything then that we know now about the virus.<\/p>\n
“It’s important we learn lessons.<\/p>\n
“We’ve already had experts here in Scotland do an initial study into this and they’ve found that while they can’t rule out any impact, there is no statistically significant association between hospital discharges and care home outbreaks.<\/p>\n
“They say the much bigger driver in care home outbreaks was the size of the care home.<\/p>\n

“We need to do a lot more that’s why I’m still the only leader in each of the four UK nations to give an unequivocal commitment into a public inquiry into this including our handling of what happened in care homes.<\/p>\n
“I still hope the other leaders in the other three nations will join me in making that commitment.”<\/p>\n
