Patrick Drahi\u2019s Altice Group said on Thursday that it had taken a 12.1% stake in Britain\u2019s BT Group becoming its largest shareholder.<\/p><figcaption class=\"Slideshow-description-447Md\">Slideshow <span>( 2 images )<\/span><\/figcaption><p>\u201cAltice holds the Board and Management team of BT in high regard and is supportive of their strategy,\u201d Altice UK, a company formed for the purpose of holding the BT stake, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAltice UK has informed the BT Board that it does not intend to make a takeover offer for BT.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The stake was worth about 2.2 billion pounds based on BT\u2019s closing price on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Britain\u2019s biggest broadband and mobile operator has set out plans to extend fibre broadband to 25 million homes and businesses by 2026, and it is seeking a partner to help fund the work.<\/p>\n<p>It is also considering selling a stake in its sports TV operation.<\/p>\n<p>BT said it noted Altice\u2019s announcement and its statement of support for its management and strategy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe welcome all investors who recognise the long-term value of our business and the important role it plays in the UK,\u201d BT said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are making good progress in delivering our strategy and plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Altice\u2019s SFR is the second largest telecoms operator in France behind Orange.<\/p>\n<p>Drahi, the billionaire founder of the group, recently took it private with a buyout offer.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/altice-bt-group\/update-3-billionaires-altice-group-buys-12-bt-stake-but-has-no-bid-plans-idUSL5N2NS14R\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read Full Article<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Reuters) &#8211;
