{"id":116630,"date":"2021-06-17T02:05:20","date_gmt":"2021-06-17T02:05:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fin2me.com\/?p=116630"},"modified":"2021-06-17T02:05:20","modified_gmt":"2021-06-17T02:05:20","slug":"china-launches-crewed-spacecraft-shenzhou-12-in-historic-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fin2me.com\/markets\/china-launches-crewed-spacecraft-shenzhou-12-in-historic-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"China launches crewed spacecraft Shenzhou-12 in historic mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<figcaption class=\"Slideshow-description-447Md\">Slideshow <span>( 5 images )<\/span><\/figcaption><p>JIUQUAN, China (Reuters) &#8211; China launched a spacecraft on Thursday carrying three astronauts to part of a space station still under construction for the longest stay in low Earth orbit by any Chinese national.<\/p>\n<p>A Long March 2F rocket transporting the Shenzhou-12, or \u201cDivine Vessel\u201d, bound for the space station module Tianhe blasted off at 9:22 a.m. Beijing time (0122 GMT) from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwestern Gansu province.<\/p>\n<p>Shenzhou-12 is the third of 11 missions &#8211; four of which will be crewed &#8211; needed to complete China\u2019s first full-fledged space station. Construction began in April with the launch of Tianhe, the first and largest of three modules.<\/p>\n<p>The astronauts Nie Haisheng, 56, Liu Boming, 54, and Tang Hongbo, 45, are to work and stay on Tianhe, the living quarters of the future space station, for three months.<\/p>\n<p>During their sojourn on the cylinder-like Tianhe, slightly bigger than a city bus, the three men will test the module\u2019s technologies including its life-support system.<\/p>\n<p>The men will also be monitored for how they fare in space physically and psychologically for an extended period of time.
