REUTERS\/John Sibley<\/figcaption><p>LONDON (Reuters) &#8211; The former top adviser to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he discussed the possibility of toppling Johnson shortly after an election triumph in 2019 because Brexit campaigners were being sidelined inside Downing Street.<\/p>\n<p>Dominic Cummings told the BBC that by January 2020, after the November 2019 election, Johnson did not \u201chave a plan\u201d and the prime minister\u2019s then-girlfriend Carrie Symonds &#8211; who is now his wife &#8211; wanted to edge Cummings and his former Vote Leave colleagues out of important government decisions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(People) were already saying: \u2018By the summer, either we\u2019ll all have gone from here or we\u2019ll be in the process of trying to get rid of (Johnson) and get someone else in as prime minister\u2019,\u201d Cummings said.<\/p>\n<p>He made the comments in his first TV interview since leaving his job last year.<\/p>\n<p>In excerpts released on Monday, Cummings accused Johnson of not wanting to impose a second coronavirus lockdown in the autumn of 2020 because \u201cthe people who are dying are essentially all over 80\u201d. Downing Street said Johnson had taken action to protect lives and livelihoods.<\/p>\n<p>The government did not immediately reply to a request for comment about Cummings\u2019 latest remarks.
