A Question Time audience member appeared to expose BBC bias after he claimed it was “quite nice to be invited to a Tory roast”. The remark followed several audience members and panel guests who were highly critical of the Government’s mixed messaging on coronavirus ahead of Christmas. However, it appeared to “hit a nerve” with Fiona Bruce, according to viewers, as the BBC host furiously denied the claim.<\/p>\n

The debate programme last night took place in Weston-super-Mare. <\/p>\n

The man, who works for Royal Mail, said: “It’s quite nice to be invited to a Tory roast.<\/p>\n

“So I’m quite happy not to have a Christmas Party.”<\/p>\n

Ms Bruce responded: “I’m not sure anyone would describe this as a Tory roast. But okay if that is your view.”<\/p>\n

Retail entrepreneur and former Dragon from BBC’s Dragons Den Theo Paphitis later responded to the anti-Tory claim.<\/p>\n

He said: “Someone said about Tory-bashing. It is not Tory-bashing. It is called frustration from people working and running the economy.<\/p>\n

“We can’t just have nonsense and spin when lives are at stake when the economy is at stake.<\/p>\n

“We need clear guidance. We’re getting Peppa Pig and spin and that is not good enough.”<\/p>\n

Viewers jumped on the audience member’s remarks, with @DanParnell6 tweeting: “A Tory Roast… Did feel a bit little like it tonight. A significant sea change. Have we finally (eventually) had enough?”<\/p>\n

@DogAteMyWooki added: “A Tory roast? Holding people to account and getting them to answer for their breaking of the rules they created is important especially when it comes to leading by example.”<\/p>\n

@evilattic said that the Tory roast comment “hit a nerve”.<\/p>\n

@OGutan3 remarked: “Did you see how offended Fiona Bruce got at the guy calling this a Tory roast?”<\/p>\n

This comes amid mixed messaging from the Government amid concerns over the new Covid variant, Omicron.<\/p>\n

Ministers have been accused of sending confusing messages about whether people should change their behaviour during Christmas.<\/p>\n

Sajid Javid appeared to contradict the Work and Pensions secretary Thérèse Coffey, who earlier warned against kissing strangers under mistletoe.<\/p>\n

Mr Javid insisted that “people can snog who they wish”.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week it emerged that Mr Johnson attended a leaving party in Downing Street last November, during the second lockdown.<\/p>\n

The PM did not deny that festive parties were held but said “all guidance was followed”.<\/p>\n
