Speaking in the Commons this afternoon, Ms Dorries confirmed the Government’s plans to freeze the broadcaster’s funding for the next two years.<\/p>\n
She said the lack of increase in cost for the fee would help families struggling with the cost of living crisis.<\/p>\n
Nadine Dorries said the licence fee would then rise in line with inflation for the four years after that.<\/p>\n
On social media yesterday the minister said after 2027 the licence fee would end.<\/p>\n
She wrote: “This licence fee announcement will be the last.<\/p>\n
“The days of the elderly being threatened with prison sentences and bailiffs knocking on doors, are over.”<\/p>\n
However, in the Commons she hinted the Government could still commit to the licence fee in the long term.<\/p>\n
