The Commons petitions committee wants the likes of Twitter and Facebook punished if they fail to stop offenders returning.<\/p>\n
It also urged platforms to allow users to have verified ID accounts.<\/p>\n
Its latest report was prompted by e-petitions calling for more action on trolls, including from The OnlyWay Is Essex star Bobby Norris.<\/p>\n

Find out by adding your postcode or visit InYourArea<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Committee chairman Catherine McKinnell said: “The problem of banned users returning to social media platforms and continuing to send abuse was raised in Bobby Norris’ petition.<\/p>\n “We heard that social media companies need to put a higher priority on preventing this kind of repeat offending, and the Government should ensure this is part of companies’ new online safety obligations.”<\/p>\n MPs called for the Online Safety Bill to be beefed up. It includes blocks on websites and possible criminal sanctions on tech bosses.<\/p>\n
