The vast majority of these billionaires come from the US and all of them are men. Here’s a list of the top five wealthiest people on the planet and how much their wealth surged by in 2021.<\/p>\n
In the top spot as the wealthiest person in the world is Jeff Bezos with a staggering net worth of $177 billion. <\/p>\n
This is a huge jump from 2020 when his net worth was thought to be $113 billion according to Forbes. <\/p>\n
The American e-commerce tycoon made his billions through founding Amazon from his garage in 1994.<\/p>\n
Since then Amazon has gone from strength to strength and although he stepped down as CEO to become executive chairman on July 5, 2021, he still plays a major role in the company.<\/p>\n
He has now branched out into the world of space tourism founding the company Blue Origin, which aims to blast wannabe astronauts into space.<\/p>\n

The second wealthiest person in the world is Elon Musk. His wealth has leapt in recent years from just $24.6 billion in 2020 to $151 billion in 2021 according to Forbes.<\/p>\n
Mr Musk’s vast fortune comes primarily from his company Tesla. He co-founded the sought after electric car manufacturing company in 2003.<\/p>\n
Since then just like Jeff Bezos he has ventured into the space tourism sphere, by launching a rival company called SpaceX in 2002.<\/p>\n
Bernard Arnault is a French businessman who oversees a vast empire 70 of luxury brands including Louis Vuitton and Sephora.<\/p>\n

His net worth shot up from 2020 to 2021, as it climbed from $76 billion to $150 billion.<\/p>\n
Bill Gates has been among the world’s richest people for decades, in fact, he was only knocked off the top spot as the world’s wealthiest person in 2018.<\/p>\n
According to Forbes he was the wealthiest man in the world from 1992 to 2017, although he briefly dipped to second place in 1993.<\/p>\n
Mr Gates earned the bulk of his vast fortune as CEO, chair, and chief software architect of Microsoft.<\/p>\n
