Shortly after Mr Johnson “unreservedly” apologised in the Commons for breaking COVID-19 rules at a Downing Street Party, the former minister revealed he had sent a letter of no-confidence to the 1922 Committee. Mr Harper said: “I’m very sorry to have to say this, but I no longer think he is worthy of the great office that he holds.” He said the Prime Minister broke the rules that he told the public to follow and he has not been “straightforward” about it. He continued: “Now he is going to ask the decent men and women on these benches to defend the indefensible.” Mr Harper accused the PM of harbouring a “toxic culture” at Number 10. Leader of the Labour Party Sir Keir Starmer called the apology “half-hearted” and is expected to grill his opposition during Prime Minister’s Questions today.<\/p>\n
