The 74th Colorado Legislative session kicked off at the Colorado Capitol building on January 9, 2023, in Denver.<\/p>\n
A record number of women fill state House and Senate seats \u2014 a majority, making Colorado the second state in the country to hit that mark. The state will have the largest LGBTQ caucus of any legislature in the country, according to the caucus chair. Nearly two-thirds of the House\u2019s 65 members will be women, many of them people of color. And for the first time in the state\u2019s history, the House\u2019s top three leadership positions will all be held by women.<\/p>\n
An era of historic Democratic control in the state Capitol began Monday, with leaders laying out a vision for what those mandates could achieve as Republicans were left hoping for a voice \u2014 and promising to put up a fight for their values.<\/p>\n
