Rishi Sunak has received another blow after a poll revealed that Labour has increased its lead over the Tories for the third week in a row.

The findings in the Techne UK survey put Labour up 1 on 45 percent 17 points ahead of the Conservatives on 28 percent down one.

The Lib Dems remain unchanged on 11 percent, Reform UK down one on five percent and the Greens unchanged on also five percent.

The poll suggests that the recovery which Mr Sunak had been overseeing has come to a crashing halt and gone into reverse.

A month ago Mr Sunak had reduced Labour’s lead of 30 percent when he took over to just 13 points.

However, in four weeks Labour has extended its lead by four points again.

The results come in a difficult week for the Prime Minister where the right of his party has been outraged by a decision to water down the Retained EU Law Bill apparently tyo appease the unelected Lords.

The decision by Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch has led to accusations that Mr Sunak did a “grubby deal” with the eU for the UK to keep thousands of Brussels’ regulations.

Downing Street has denied the accusation but Tory Brexiteer MPs are now discussing sending letters to 1922 Committee chairman Sir Graham Brady asking for a vote of confidence in Mr Sunak’s leadership.

It also follows anger over the compromises with the EU on Northern Ireland in the Windsor Framework.

Don’t miss…

The poll also comes after the Tories were dealt a humiliating defeat in last week’s local elections which saw Labour become the biggest party in local government.

The loss of more than 1,000 seats was in the same round of elections where Theresa May had previously lost 1,300 just before she was ousted by Tory MPs.

A conference of Conservative grassroots demanding reform for the party with allies of Boris Johnson will also cast a shadow on the Sunak leadership.

If this poll played out in an election the Electoral Calculus prediction site says Labour would have a 212 majority while the Tories would be reduced to 142 seats.

The breakdown of the polls shows that the only age group the Tories lead in is 65 and over where they lead 41 to 35.

Among 18-to-35-year-olds, Labour has a massive lead of 57 percent to 18 percent for the Tories, more than threee times the support.

Crucially, though the proportion of 2019 Conservative voters still backing the Tories has fallen five points in a week from 70 percent to 65 percent.

The compromises on Brexit have also impacted their support among 2016 Leave voters with less than half (45 percent) backing the Conservatives.
