Lee Anderson has openly mocked Remainers after new economic figures revealed that Britain is outperforming the EU’s economic powerhouse Germany.

The Tory deputy chairman has been the bane of “remoaners” since he was elected as the MP for Ashfield in a former Labour safe seat in 2019.

His confrontations with Remainer protester Steve Bray have become the stuff of legend in Westminster and he even challenged Bray to a charity boxing match.

But Mr Anderson has never passed up an opportunity to underline that the people of Britain, including a large majority in his East Midlands constituency, were right to back Brexit.

According to the OECD – one of the main international organisations which charts economic prospects – Britain’s outlook has been significantly upgraded.

It acknowledged that gloomy predictions about Britain entering a recession this year have been wide of the mark.

Instead, in the first quarter of the year the economy was up 0.9 percent and the second three months up 1 percent.

By comparison, Germany is on the verge of recession according to the OECD.

It’s economy shrank 0.3 percent in the first three months and only grew 0.2 percent in the seconf three months of this year.

Mr Anderson pointe out many in Labour, the Lib Dems and SNP as well as other Remainers had been trying to blame Brexit for the UK’s struggles but seemed to not be as vocal on Germany’s economic crisis.

Don’t miss…

He Tweeted: “UK faring better than Germany. Can we blame Germany’s recession on them leaving the EU and our ability to stave off recession by remaining?

“Hold on that’s the wrong way round. We made the right decision. Brexit Britain will boom.”

His comment came as Oasis singer Noel Gallagher became the latest Remainer to attack Brexit Britain.

He told NME: “What has happened to this country? I have no idea, well I have an idea, Brexit happened … A lot of people fell under some kind of mass hypnosis. But yeah, it’s s*** England now. And it was going downhill for a bit but actually, f*** all works.”

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you.
