Nigel Farage has warned Mr Sunak there is a “gap for insurgency” among Tory MPs who believe they will likely lose their seat if they remain in the Conservative Party next year. In an interview with the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, the Brexiteer spoke of the chances of a political earthquake lining up in the near future.

During her Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme, the journalist asked Mr Farage whether any Tory MP had recently reached out to him to join forces.

He said: “More than before. I think there are a lot of Conservative MPs right now who know they are going to lose their seats, the red wallers know they are going to lose their seats as it is running as conservatives.

“And if there was a coming together, on the centre-right, which is where the gap is, I think they would.”

Asked how many Tory rebels he believes are preparing to walk away from their party, Mr Farage said: “Potentially double figures would not be hard to see.”

Further probing the political leader, the journalist asked whether he was claiming more than 10 Conservative MPs were considering leaving their party to join him.

Mr Farage replied: “I think it needs to be more than just me. You can have one person leading a party into the European elections or something like that. But for the general elections, you got to have a range of talent.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen, I don’t know what Boris Johnson is going to do. But I see a bigger gap for insurgency today than I did before.”

Mr Farage, who is the president of the Reform UK party led by Richard Tice, also accused the Prime Minister of not taking the necessary measures to bar Sir Keir Starmer from dragging the country back into the single market should he be elected.

He said: “Rishi Sunak, by not getting rid of EU laws, by not diverging, he makes it very easy for Keir Starmer to sign us straight back up for the single market.”

Sir Keir has pledged multiple times to respect the will of British people and not attempt to thwart in any way Brexit.
