<\/source><\/source><\/source><\/source><\/source><\/source><\/source><\/source><\/p>\nFormer Prime Minister Boris Johnson was found to have repeatedly misled the House of Commons during the pandemic, with the Commons Privileges Committee\u2019s report revealing that he \u201ccommitted a serious contempt\u201d.<\/p>\n
The year-long inquiry showed that Mr Johnson\u2019s committed repeated offences and his breaches were serious enough to recommend a 90-day suspension. This could have triggered a by-election had he not resigned as an MP after receiving the report.<\/p>\n
On Monday MPs will debate the report’s findings and vote on whether they agree, and if Mr Johnosn should be stripped of his access to the Palace of Westminster, albeit temporarily. In the evening, after the debate, a recorded vote could take place or MPs could nod the report through without.<\/p>\n
In his resignation, Mr Johnson said: \u201cI am not alone in thinking that a witch-hunt is underway to take revenge for Brexit and ultimately to reverse the 2016 referendum result.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dame Priti Patel also linked the investigation with a desire to criticise Brexit, telling Express.co.uk that attacks on Mr Johnson are also attacks on Brexit, freedom of speech and conservative values.<\/p>\n

In a poll that ran from midday on Thursday, June 15, to 2.30pm on Monday, June 19, Express.co.uk asked readers: \u201cIs Boris Johnson the victim of a Remainer stitch-up?\u201d<\/p>\n
Overall, 12,585 votes were cast with more than three-quarters of readers, 77 percent (9,651 people) answering \u201cyes\u201d he is, while 23 percent (2,866 people) said \u201cno\u201d. If this goes through it is a very large nail in the democratic process.\u201d<\/p>\n And username miike added: \u201cThis whole fiasco has been driven by political bias and wasted so much time and money and dragging it out caused so much more bad feeling it is unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n Yet other readers believe that Mr Johnson is at fault, with username Gazriel claiming that he is the \u201carchitect of his own downfall\u201d.<\/p>\n Similarly, username The ghirl said: \u201cHe’s only got himself to blame.\u201d And username Wilson123 wrote: \u201cJohnson stitched himself up, he is a victim of his own making he is his own worst enemy.\u201d<\/p>\n
