Carol Vorderman has laid out a plan to humiliate the Tories at the ballot box in her latest fight against the Government.

In a Times article this week, Vorderman was labelled the ‘true Leader of the Opposition’ following her recent scraps with Tory MPs on social media.

Posting on social media earlier today, the British TV star outlined an unlikely plan to cut the Tories “down to just 70 MPs” at the next general election.

Currently, the Conservatives have 352 MPs – a huge majority – in the House of Commons but polling suggest that Labour are favourite to win the next election.

In her tweet this afternoon, Vorderman wrote: “I support Tactical Voting & http://Stopthetories.vote as a first step to some form of PR.

“Local elections? About 1/2 million visited our website in 5 days. Tories lost 1,063 seats.

“We hope to get them down to just 70 MPs at the GE.”

She linked to the website ‘StopTheTories.Vote’ which proposes a large-scale tactical voting programme for the next general election.

The campaign also wants to push Proportional Representation, adding: “So we can vote with our hearts, voting for the things we care about.”

In recent months, Vorderman has become a surprisingly outspoken critic of the Conservatives, particularly over the awarding of Covid contracts.

The 62-year-old has been involved in several spats on X, formerly known as Twitter, with Tory MPs.

She has vowed to continue fighting the party in power until they are out of office.

Vorderman told The Times this week: “If I can make a difference I’ll do everything I can to make that difference.

“If our kids are to have a future, we must kick them out.”

Meanwhile, Rishi Sunak has rejected claims that the Tories are already accepting election defeat.

While in India for the G20 summit, he told reporters that he was “fired up” about winning a full term.

The Prime Minister said: “I think we have achieved a lot over the last eight months, and you can start to see the fruit of that work.

Don’t miss…

“You saw over the summer inflation is coming down, that’s the best thing we can do to help people with the cost of living.

“Energy bills are coming down considerably from where they peaked, that’s going to help people.

“The number of small boat crossings, of course higher than any of us would like but for the first time ever they are down on the year before.

“The plan is working.”
