{"id":134918,"date":"2023-11-27T20:39:04","date_gmt":"2023-11-27T20:39:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fin2me.com\/?p=134918"},"modified":"2023-11-27T20:39:04","modified_gmt":"2023-11-27T20:39:04","slug":"kemi-badenoch-blasts-doom-laden-nonsense-about-brexit-britain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fin2me.com\/politics\/kemi-badenoch-blasts-doom-laden-nonsense-about-brexit-britain\/","title":{"rendered":"Kemi Badenoch blasts &#8216;doom-laden nonsense&#8217; about Brexit Britain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.images.express.co.uk\/img\/dynamic\/139\/590x\/secondary\/Kemi-Badenoch-5088192.jpg?r=1701117017071\"><\/p>\n<p>Kemi Badenoch dismissed &#8220;doom-laden nonsense&#8221; about Brexit Britain in a speech at a major summit today.<\/p>\n<p>The Business and Trade Secretary pointed to Nissan&#8217;s announcement that it is investing \u00a32billion in its Sunderland plant as she addressed chief executives at the Global Investment Summit.<\/p>\n<p>She said it showed claims that the Japanese car giant would leave the UK due to Brexit &#8220;could not have been more wrong&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Closing the gathering at Hampton Court Palace aimed at bringing in investment to Britain, Ms Badenoch said: &#8220;Ignore the doom-laden nonsense you may hear.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The fact is we have had the third fastest growth in the G7 since 2010.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A faster recovery from Covid than Germany. And we remain the second largest exporter of services in the world.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Let\u2019s not forget that people said Nissan would leave the UK because of Brexit. As we saw on Friday, they could not have been more wrong.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Badenoch insisted Britain is the &#8220;best place in the world to do business&#8221; in her speech to around 200 business chiefs.<\/p>\n<p>She said: &#8220;British people are too often too modest about our own country. I don&#8217;t think we&#8217;re bullish enough about selling the UK&#8217;s strengths.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Those who know me know that I don&#8217;t have this problem.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She said the Government knew that its role was to &#8220;create the conditions for business to succeed&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>She added: &#8220;More often than not the Government&#8217;s role should be to get out of the way and let you do what you do best.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need to listen, to understand, to enable you to make long-term investment decisions with certainty.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Look carefully at what\u2019s happening in this country. A supply side revolution is quietly underway.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Government is taking on the forces holding back enterprise.
