Reports: Georgia Tech without ACC’s best player after positive COVID-19 test

Georgia Tech will be without its leading scorer for the start of its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 10 seasons.

Moses Wright has been sidelined due to a positive test for COVID-19 ahead of the Yellow Jackets facing Loyola Chicago in the first round Friday. Multiple outlets are reporting the news, although the school has not confirmed his absence.

Wright, the ACC player of the year, averaged 17.0 points and 8.4 reboundsduring the regular season. Tech won its last eight games, including two victories to secure its first ACC tournament title since 1993.

Should the Yellow Jackets advance against Loyola, it is expected Wright also will miss the second-round game against the winner of Illinois and Drexel.

Without its leading scorer, Georgia Tech will turn to guards Jose Alvarado and Michael Devoe to add more offensive punch to the lineup. Devoe was the most valuable player of the ACC tournament after scoring 33 points in its two wins.
