BBC sparks fury over ‘idiotic decision’ to interview TikTok prankster Mizzy

The BBC has come under criticism for giving TikToker Mizzy a platform on Newsnight.
The teenager, whose real name is Bacari-Bronze O’Garro, has sparked outrage with his pranks on the video-sharing app.
The 18-year-old, from Hackney, east London, appeared on Newsnight for an interview on Thursday which saw him boast about how he does not need to do “pranks” anymore because he is “established”.
But the corporation has come under fire for having the youth on the flagship BBC Two show.
It comes the same week as the Beeb devoted time to unmasking the anti-Conservative “Secret Tory” parody account on Twitter as a personal trainer, raising questions over how newsworthy the item was.

The BBC has also been criticised over its interview with controversial influencer Andrew Tate.
Conservative MP Simon Clarke said: “This is about as far from the Reithian ethos as it’s possible for the BBC to stray.”
Baroness Fox said: “Bad enough having Mizzy on Newsnight, he ran rings, mocking BBC News for inviting him on and accused broadcaster of fuelling Andrew Tate’s fame by doing a long interview with him.
“Mizzy and Tate may ‘do’ notoriety for clicks/fame; What’s the BBC’s excuse? Cringeworthy/humiliating.”

“He is a thug and a criminal who terrorises his neighbourhood, so why exactly is the BBC treating him like a sage or spokesman?”
GB News presenter Darren Grimes asked: “How is this public service broadcasting?”
Conservative commentator, Chris Rose, added: “Why is Mizzy on Newsnight? We should not reward or incentivise his illegal, anti-social behaviour. Idiotic decision by the BBC.”
On the BBC’s interview with Mr Tate, barrister and women’s rights campaigner Dr Charlotte Proudman said: “Why the hell is the BBC giving Andrew Tate a platform when he’s on trial for of rape, sex trafficking and exploiting women.
“He called a complainant’s allegations ‘imaginary.’ I can’t imagine how survivors feel watching this. It’s a slap in the face.”
Mizzy appeared in court last month accused of entering a family’s home as part of a prank and posting the footage on TikTok without their consent.
He was placed under a criminal behaviour order and fined over the video, but was back in court within days accused of breaching the order.
He is facing a magistrates’ court trial in July over accusations that he posted two further videos online without the consent of those featured and visited Westfield shopping centre in Stratford in breach of the order.
