Braverman breaks cover for first time since speeding row erupted

Suella Braverman has broken cover today ahead of a difficult Home Office questions this afternoon as MPs prepare to ask her about allegations she broke the ministerial code.

With allies claiming the Home Secretary is the victim of “a put up job”, Ms Braverman could become the focus of another inquiry by the Prime Minister’s Independent Adviser on Ministers’ Interests Laurie Magnus.

It is understood that Rishi Sunak has spoken to Magnus as he mulls over whether to subject another senior minister to an investigation.

Ms Braverman, who has Home Office questions at 2.30pm, has been accused of abusing her position by sking civil servants whether she could avoid publicity if she did a speeding course instead of taking a fine and the points in her licence.

However, allies say she did not ask them to help her arrange such a course or avoid publicity and in the end she took the points and fine.
