Labour’s shadow foreign secretary Lisa Nandy ripped into the EU during her interview with the BBC’s Andrew Marr this morning. The MP and former Remainer took aim at Ursula von der Leyen’s threat to block exports of vaccines into the UK. She branded Ms von der Leyen’s comments “deeply, deeply unhelpful” and warned of “very, very severe consequences for the EU.”

Ms Nandy said: “The Commission President’s comments were deeply, deeply unhelpful.

“Blockades are really unhelpful, I would urge the Commission to calm down the language and cool the rhetoric.”

When Andrew Marr asked if the UK should retaliate by blocking its own vaccine exports to the EU, Ms Nandy responded: “We don’t want to get into this tit-for-tat.

“If we do, the consequences for the EU, the UK and the world will be very, very severe.”
