MPs awarded 2.7% pay hike taking salaries to more than £84k

The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority has hiked a backbencher’s salary from £81,932 to £84,144 from April.

The quango said it reflected a heavy pandemic workload.

Ipsa chairman Richard Lloyd said MPs should be paid fairly for the “unseen work they do helping their constituents, which dramatically increased last year”.

But John O’Connell, at TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “Working households will be furious to see MPs’ pay go up while they face crippling tax hikes.”
