Following the news that vaccine passports will be required to enter nightclubs and large sporting venues from the end of September in order to prove a punter has been double jabbed, Sky News presenter Kay Burley pressed the small business minister to give Britons examples of what the government define as a nightclub or “crowded venue” as a massive backlash ensues over the passports. But Mr Scully failed to give a clear answer despite insisiting “it is the right thing to do” which triggered a furious response from Burley who demanded clarity on the issue as nightlife sector and hundreds of thousands of businesses furiously oppose the plans.

Mr Scully explained: “Anywhere where large people come together because we want to stop the case numbers going up.

“But we will be looking at this and working out how we can operationalise it and use it smoothly… But the message is get your vaccination.

Burley hit back: “My question was give me more examples of areas where you will have to have a vaccine passport.

“For example will you need to have it to go to a crowded pub?”

He replied; “No, we are not saying crowded pubs at all, we are not ruling anything out.

“We are saying nightclubs but also larger ticketed events as well, that is what we are looking at.

Burley slammed: “But some pubs can be as busy as a nightclub?”

Mr Scully then backtracked and admitted the government are yet to define what type of venues will require vaccine passports before admitting it is a “difficult” topic.

He said: “I think this is the difficulty to be fair and we have got to work on the definition, we have got to define it really carefully and will do that in the coming months until we get there.”

He continued reeling off different types of venues which need to be investigated further to see whether they are appropriate for the vaccine passport but insisted “this is the right thing to do”.

But Burley then boiled over, furious at the minister’s question dodging and failure to properly outline what venues will need the passports, she slammed: “That is not my question! That is not my question!

“You are representing the government this morning and you as a representative of the government are telling us that we have to have a vaccine passport from September but you can’t tell me where for!”

Mr Scully replied: “What I am saying is that we are looking at night-clubs and larger ticketed events where people are coming together.

“We will work on the details over the next few weeks… we have got to get it absolutely right so we can define it properly.”

“We will work on the detail with the sector and give you plenty of notice.”
