Tory conference LIVE: Huge boost for Rishi as Labour’s lead slashed in new poll

Labour’s lead over the Tories has been slashed to just 10 points, according to a new poll.

The survey by Opinium of 3,000 UK adults between September 27-29 puts Sir Keir Starmer’s party on 39 percent, with Rishi Sunak’s outfit on 29 percent.

It is a two-point drop for Labour and a three-point rise for the Conservatives.

The poll is the latest in a series of surveys which have shown the gap narrowing between the two parties.

A source close to the Prime Minister said: “We are planning on doing some big things, it’s going to open people’s eyes.

“This is more than winnable and once we get to 10 points and below in the polls it’s going to put huge pressure on Starmer and Labour but it is also going to give our side belief.”

It comes as the Tories will gather in Manchester on Sunday for the opening of their four-day conference.

Starmer labelled ‘Sir Shifty’

Keir Starmer was branded “Sir Shifty” as senior Tories warned voters: “You cannot trust this man.”

And they painted a nightmare vision of a Starmer-led country with open-door migration, more 20mph traffic zones and militant unions calling the shots.

Tory chairman Greg Hands tore into Sir Keir on the eve of what may be the party’s last conference before the general election.
