‘It’s outrageous!’ Nicola Sturgeon and SNP’s ‘cynical’ bid to hold 2021 election denounced

Sturgeon: IndyRef2 calls ‘outrageous’ says Miklinski

Tony Miklinski told Express.co.uk that Nicola Sturgeon’s decision to not postpone the election is solely motivated by her “obsession” with Scottish independence. The Scottish Tory added that another independence referendum would cause greater division within Scotland.

Mr Miklinski said: “It is outrageous, the Prime Minister has said that this is the last time we should be thinking about a referendum.

“Nicola Sturgeon has seen the opinion polls and is under pressure from her own party and will declare after the May election that she now has the mandate to hold a further referendum.

“She is cynically using the popularity she has gained largely from her repeated daily expose on television under very gentle questioning from the Scottish press.

“She uses that to further her obsession with independence when she should be trying to help the country under her care recovering from the ravages of the pandemic.”

He continued: “The scale of unemployment is going to be desperate and we are going to have to do an awful lot of hard work and it is better to do that together than being at each other’s throats.

“We had a difficult time at the last independence referendum, it will much worse next time.

“To parade her ambitions like this on the back of the pandemic at this time really is quite outrageous.

“I wish people would think hard about the kind of person that makes her because she knows what she is doing.”

Nicola Sturgeon fumes over claim Scotland is ‘catching up’

During the same interview, Mr Miklinski issued a warning to Ms Sturgeon that “the clock is ticking” on her tenure as Scotland’s First Minister.

Mr Miklinski said: “She has had the levers of power over all the devolved areas such as education and health for more than a decade.

“She has tried and failed to make any difference in quality, mostly things have got worse.

“If she can not turn that around in 13 years, then the issue is who in the SNP wants to replace her.

“Who thinks they can have a better go? Will Alex Salmond come back into the picture? That has got to be worrying her.

“She must in her own thoughts think ‘is this worth it?’.”

He added: “I am sure she thinks she can’t give anything away until she has got through Holyrood.

“But if we can hold our nerve through that then the clock is ticking for her.”
